学生概况:某城镇普通高中一年级第一学期学生,班级人数40人。多数学生已经达到《普
通高中英语课程标准(实验)》五级水平。学生课堂参与积极性一般。
语言素材:
The health care system of a country is very important and different countries have different ways of paying for it.
Britain was the first country in the world to have a free health care system paid for by the government.Health care is free for everyone living in Britain.Most doctors and nurses work for the government and most hospitals are owned by the government.Until recently this system was very successful but recently there have been problems.This is because the govemment has not put enough money into the health service.As a result,more people are using private health insurance.They see doctors who work for themselves and pay the doctors through the health insurance
company.
In America the system is very different.Most people have private health insurance.Doctors work for themselves and hospitals are privately owned.The health insurance company pays the doctors and the hospitals.The problem with this system is that poorer people don't have the money to pay for private health insurance.As a result,they often have both health and money problems.
Canada has a different system again.Health care is free.Doctors work privately and hospitals are privately owned.When you become ill,medical fees are paid for by the government.

Major Steps:
Step 1 Pre-reading(3 minutes)
(l)Have a free talk with students about Chinese health care system.
(2)Show pictures of clinics and hospitals in different countries and give students a brief introduction to other countries'health care systems.
(Justification:Having a brief knowledge of health care systems can help students better understand this passage.)
Step 2 While-reading(7 minutes)
(1)Skimming
Before reading the passage for the first time,remind students that during reading they should not pay much attention to specific words or expressions and all they need to do is to get the main idea.After reading,invite some students to tell the class what the passage is talking about.
(2)Careful reading
Ask students to read the passage for the second time and complete the form below.
(Justification:Reading for the first time is to train students'ability to read for general ideas and the second time is to train their ability to read for detailed information.)
Step 3 Post-reading(5 minutes)
(1)Students work in groups of four to discuss the differences among three health care systems and talk about which one is the best and explain the reasons.
(2)Ask students to work in pairs to talk about the feelings of seeing doctors and give advice on how to keep healthy in daily life.Then invite several students to share their opinions.(Justification:The first activity is designed for students to share their opinions freely about three health care systems and the second is designed to cultivate their awareness of keeping healthy.)
